Weekend Detox and De-Stress Routine – Weekdays can be really stressful – long working hours, studying sessions, project dues, and being cold outside really doesn’t help. We all need at least one day of detox, de-stress and wellness.

Here are my Top 5 Tips for Weekend Detox and De-Stress:

1.Sleep!

“Obviously! Like I need a guide for that.” you might think BUT I know so many people that worry they will waste their only free day sleeping, that they snooze and snooze and snooze. GIVE YOUR ALARM A BREAK! Your friends and chores can wait a little longer. Let your body recover. Don’t go get up straight, stay a little longer and snuggle with your loved one (human or pet).

2. Go for a run.

Let’s be honest, who has time to exercise and work full-time. That’s why I use my days off to go for a run and get my body working. There is nothing better than a 30 min run in the morning to boost you with energy and set you up for a great day. After that, you can go home and stay in all day with no regrets because you accomplished something today.

3. Detox – cleanse your body.

Opting for quick, unhealthy food during the week is understandable. That’s why on the weekend we should put more thought in the food that we eat.

I like to start the day with a big glass of water with freshly squeezed lemon juice. After that is time for breakfast. Here is an example of a cleansing, healthy, and nutritious smoothie, perfect for breakfast:

Green Detox Smoothie

  • 1 cucumber, peeled
  • 1-2 apples, sliced
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger, grated or chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley
  • 2 cups of spinach or kale
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1/2 cup of water

Put all ingredients in a blender and.. blend.

For lunch, I will usually make myself a salad with fresh veggies and chia seeds or a power bowl with quinoa or bulgur and roasted veggies.

Dinner tonight will be a Bosnian pita, that I made with my mother-in-law. And by that I mean she made it and I watched :D. It was yummy!

Don’t forget to drink a lot of water!

4. Do something that you love.

Whether that’s going out with friends, reading a good book, catching up on your favorite TV Series, playing board games with the whole family or cooking/baking. It will help your mind relax and recharge.

If you are a cooking lover, this would be the best time for a weekly food prep.

5. Have some me-time.

Before I go to bed I like to have a long relaxing bath, put on a facial mask and watch a lot of youtube. It is my me-time, super relaxing and it helps me fully free my mind. In the morning, I am ready to start the new week feeling fresh and motivated.
