Explore Austria: Dürnstein and the Legend of Robin Hood

Hello my dears,

It’s been a while since I last posted and I thought a good old travel post will be a great come back. This time I want to share with you a day trip to beautiful Dürnstein.

Dürnstein is a small Austrian town, about an hour away from Vienna, located in the gorgeous Wachau region. And it is the heaven of all things apricot – apricot schnapps, apricot chocolate, apricot honey. You name it – they produce it with/from apricots.

You are probably wondering how Dürnstein and Robin Hood are connected. Well, you know how Richard the Lionheart was held prisoner in 1192 (I didn’t, but “All Hail Google”) – it was in Dürnstein’s very own castle. While you’re hiking to the castle, you can read the interesting story about Richard the Lionheart and Robin Hood and even hear the story from a talking arc. We were seriously impressed!

The place is great to visit for a day or if you have a few more days for exploring, make sure to visit Melk, Krems and all the beautiful places in Wachau. Drink some of the best wine in Austria and eat some apricots. It is a pretty cool place for hiking and wandering. Next time I go to the region I will make sure to make some photos of Krems and Melk for you.

Thank you for reading and I truly hope you enjoyed the photos. What is the last place you visited and let me know how excited for summer are you? I am sooo ready for the hot, one-layer-only days.

Lots of love, Sandra
